The row of bows that hung on her closet were replaced with vampire posters

Which were soon replaced with band posters.

Her pink walls darkened to purple then lightened to lavender.

Make-up caked her pretty face until she learned subtlety.

Love notes lined her desk

Only to be ripped up by the next summer.

Photos of friends cycled through her frames.

Her chipped, black nails clutched the porcelain toilet bowl.

How else would she fit into her clothes?

College brochures dwindled to her favorites.

The stipulation: far from here.

Far from herself.
